Public Events/Festivals

James Carter visits book festivals, music festivals and libraries – as well as museums and arts centres – all over the UK. He is also a regular visitor/workshopper at the Roald Dahl Museum at Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire.

For the last few years, James has been a regular performer at the Sunday Times Oxford Literature Festival as well as the Off The Shelf Festival in Sheffield where he has visited libraries, hospitals, schools and has given INSET sessions to teachers and librarians.

In libraries and at book festivals, James gives two seperate public performances for children:

Hey Little Bug!

A gentle, fun and interactive session for 0–6 year olds and their parents. Action rhymes, music and poems aplenty full of bugs, bubbles, puddles, pirates, dinosaurs and travelling around the world – all of which feature in James’ brand new collection Hey, Little Bug! poems for little creatures.

Duration – ½hr

GREETINGS, EARTHLINGS!

Ever met an alien? James is probably the closest you’ll ever get.come along for a madcap session from the quirkiest and liveliest poet and guitarist in town. See James perform some wild guitar music as well as a bunch of poems from his collections Cars Stars Electric Guitars, Time-Travelling Underpants and Greetings, Earthings! and ’Journey To The Centre Of My Brain’. You'll hear poems on a range of wonderfully weird and superbly strange topics, from wolves to angels, garden sheds to electric guitars, brains to woolly mammoths. Very much a family session, it’s perfect for 7-777 year olds. Why not bring along your air guitar and join in? Family writing workshop can be included in the session or as an extension to ’Greetings, Eartlings!’.

Duration – up to 1hr

For music and book festivals all year round, James offers: 'REAL LIVE ROVING POET'

How would you like a poet/musician to wander around your festival, performing, entertaining wherever he goes? James will rove around doing impromptu poems, requests, odes, love poems, animal poems, kennings, fairy tale haikus, the lot. Little crowds and clusters of people gather wherever he goes. He might even get people to write a poem on the spot! What’s more, he’ll even play his melodica - a kind of mini portable piano with a blowing tube! A real novelty for any festival! Audience participation, enjoyment and smiles guaranteed!
